
Athletes from the Lviv region became champions of Ukraine in freestyle wrestling among boys and girls U16.
From October 7 to 10, the Ukrainian U16 boys and girls championship in honor of Ivan Piddubny took place in Cherkasy. The competition was attended by 431 athletes from 24 teams representing 22 regions of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv. The Lviv region was represented by 37 young wrestlers. Our regional team took the first place in team standings both among boys and girls.
Our athletes won 8 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze medals! Winners and prize-winners from the Lviv region in various weight categories: Boys – 45 kg: Volodymyr Yatel (gold), 48 kg: Andriy Dremblyuga (gold), 51 kg: Taras Tokar (bronze), 55 kg: Ivan Bezugly (gold), Kirylo Nahirnyi (bronze), 80 kg: Dmytro Holovenko (bronze), 92 kg: Serhiy Svyrida (bronze), 110 kg: Tymofiy Trynchuk (gold). Girls – 43 kg: Anastasiia Verstyn (gold), Sofiia Lutsiv (bronze), 46 kg: Sonia Senetska (gold), 49 kg: Anastasiia Kozykova (gold), Karolina Shperyik (silver), Ivanna Maidanska (bronze), 57 kg: Anna Basarab (silver), 61 kg: Anna-Maria Virvan (gold), Oleksandra Malashevska (bronze).
“Lviv region has a high level of freestyle wrestling school. Olympic Games winners and prize-winners were trained here: Iryna Merleni, Andriy Stadnyk, Alla Cherkasova. In the last two Olympics, Oksana Livach made it to the top 5. I believe that among these boys and girls we will soon see participants and prize-winners of the largest international events”, said the director of the department of sports, youth, and tourism of the Lviv OVA Roman Khimyak.
