Lviv native Liliia Huhliak becomes youth MMA world champion

Liliia Huhliak from Lviv Region has won the gold medal at the IMMAF Youth World Mixed Martial Arts MMA Championships, held from 1 to 7 November in Tbilisi (Georgia) under the auspices of IMMAF. The athlete’s success was reported by the Lviv Regional State Administration.

As part of the Ukrainian national team, Lviv Region was represented by two fighters in the “youth” category in the 52.2 kg weight division: Liliia Huhliak from the “MMA CENTER LVIV” sports club and Maksym Dmytrakh from the “Nokaut” sports club.

On her way to the world champion title, Liliia had three tough bouts. In the quarter-finals she defeated her opponent from Mexico by judges’ decision. In the semi-final she secured an early victory, applying a rear chokehold at 1 minute 30 seconds into the bout. In the final the Ukrainian again won by judges’ decision, this time against a representative of Kazakhstan.

The Regional State Administration noted that the success was the result not only of high-quality physical preparation, but also of the athlete’s psychological resilience, her ability to perform under pressure and see the bout through to victory.

“In such competitions, not only physical preparation is important, but also the ability to pull yourself together at the decisive moment, withstand the pressure and fight to the end. Liliia demonstrated this. We congratulate the athlete and her coach, Ruslan Talibaiev, on this achievement,” emphasised Roman Khimiak.

The champion’s coach is Ruslan Talibaiev, who works with Liliia at the “MMA CENTER LVIV” club.
