Volleyball was the most popular sport for which participants registered, followed by basketball and futsal.
Less than a month ago, we announced the launch of the all-Ukrainian project School Leagues Side by Side, presented top ambassadors and invited them to participate. And today they are summarizing the results of the registration phase.
“School Leagues Side by Side is the largest sports competition among schoolchildren, organized jointly by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education and Science at the initiative of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
By the order of the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration of January 19, 2024, №62/0/5-24VA “On the implementation of the project “Side by Side All-Ukrainian School Leagues” in the Lviv region”, the Department of Youth and Sports in partnership with the Department of Education and Science and with the support of the Department of Communications and Internal Policy was appointed as the project coordinator.
The project’s ambassadors in the region are candidates for the Ukrainian national team for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France):
Oksana Livach – Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine in freestyle wrestling, participant of the Olympic Games (2022), silver medalist of the European Games, World Cup winner, bronze medalist of the World Championship, winner and medalist of European Championships;
Khrystyna Pogranichna – Master of Sports of Ukraine, finalist of the Olympic ігор in Tokyo 2020, silver medalist of the III Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires Айресі (2018, Argentina), all-around champion of the 34th European Junior Championships (2018, Гвадалахара, Spain), absolute champion of the XVII World Summer Gymnasium, 2018 (Marrakech, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). Marrakech, Kingdom of Morocco), Ukrainian junior rhythmic gymnastics champion in 2017 and 2018, vice-champion of Ukraine in 2019 and 2021.
Yuliia Tkach – Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine in freestyle wrestling, participant of the Olympic Games (2008, 2012, 2016), champion and medalist of the European Games, World Cup winner, multiple champion and medalist of the World and European Championships.
Valeriia Tereta – Master of Sports of International Class in canoeing, European Games champion, bronze medalist of the European Championships, holder of a license to participate in the Summer Olympics in Paris 2024. She is a holder of the Order of Princess Olga of the III degree.
This year’s “School Leagues Side by Side” are held under the slogan “TOGETHER WE WILL WIN”!
We remind you that the participating teams will first compete at the school stage of the School Leagues, and then at the territorial, district, regional and all-Ukrainian stages.
Among all regions of Ukraine, Lviv is the leader in the number of registered teams – 2875.
Most of the participating teams applied in:
– Lviv city community – 300;
– Novoyavoriv community – 119;
– Yavoriv community – 115.
The fewest schools applied in Sokilnytsia community – 1 team, Velykolyubinska community – 4, and Shchyretska community – 6.
Number of participating teams in the districts:
Lviv district – 832;
Stryi district – 458;
Sambir district – 405;
Yavoriv district – 383;
Zolochiv district – 287;
Chervonohrad district – 280;
Drohobych district – 230.
“It’s a shame that not all community leaders understand the importance of such projects. For example, only one team was registered from the richest community in Lviv Oblast, Sokilnytska. Or let’s look at the Velykolyubinska community, which has 8 educational institutions and only 4 registered teams. For comparison, 49 teams have applied in the mountainous Strilkivska community,” said Roman Khimyak, head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
The students will determine the best in 5 sports: basketball, volleyball, futsal, orienteering and cheerleading.

Futsal – 6565 teams;
Orienteering – 2760 teams;
Cheerleading – 2440 teams.
