
An award ceremony for the winners of the national school leagues in chess “Shoulder to Shoulder” took place in the Lviv region.
On February 6, at the Lviv Regional State Administration, schoolchildren who became the winners of the final V national stage of the chess competitions were honored. Young athletes from Lviv region received valuable gifts for their high results at the national level. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Serhii Tymofieiev, the Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration Ivan Sobko, the Director of the Department of Sports, Youth, and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration Roman Khymiak, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, coaches, and team mentors.
“‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ is much more than a competition. It’s about humanity, kindness, integrity, and quality communication. About forming communities where sport becomes a tool of unity, support, and development for children, regardless of circumstances,” emphasized Serhii Tymofieiev.
During the visit, key directions for the development of sports in the Lviv region were discussed, in particular the development of adaptive sports and the implementation of the “Active Communities” project. Ivan Sobko emphasized the systematic approach of the region to the development of the sports industry, noting that every hryvnia invested in sports reduces medical expenses. Roman Khymiak highlighted that the Lviv region consistently ranks among the leaders in school leagues, fostering a culture of regular physical activity among children.
The winners of the final V national stage of the “Shoulder to Shoulder” chess league in 2025 were teams from the Lviv region. Among students in grades 5–9, the team from Lyceum No. 93 won, and among grades 10–11, the team from the Lviv Physical-Mathematical Lyceum won. The project is aimed at promoting sports among schoolchildren and is part of the motivational program to stimulate students’ sports activity.
