The competition took place on April 27 at the Viking Bay complex in Starye Selo. The event was timed to coincide with the Day of the Border Guard of Ukraine, which is celebrated on April 30.
The participants had to overcome a three-kilometer-long course through forest, sand, swamp and water, with more than twenty obstacles of varying difficulty. Participants also had the opportunity to attend workshops on tactical medicine, mine safety, dog handlers, and even shot from a javelin using VR simulators.
The sporting event gathered a total of 163 participants who determined the fastest in several categories: team and single races, children’s competitions, and the ultra category. The finishers of the “mile of the unbreakable”, which included veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war, received the loudest applause.
This year, children and war veterans competed at KORDON RACE for the first time. Special tracks were set up for them, which were interesting to run and at the same time manageable for people with injuries. The team races, which are already traditional for the tournament, attracted the most attention.
Also, this year’s event was also charitable, as all the funds raised will be donated to the Steel Frontier Brigade to purchase FPV drones.
“KORDON RACE 2024 brought together 13 teams. They include representatives of five border guard detachments, the Army Academy, the State Emergency Service, the National Guard, the Patrol Police, the Dog Training Center, the Military Law Enforcement Service, and the Zakhid PMC. Each team consisted of eight members: six men and two women.
WINNERS AND PRIZE-WINNERS OF THE COMPETITION:
🥇National Army Academy named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi
🥈The Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv Oblast
🥉Cynological Training Center.
The event was organized with the support of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment, and with the assistance of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
“KORDON RACE” is not just a tactical sports competition or an obstacle course.
This is a great celebration of sport and team spirit in the company of the best people in this country – our Defenders. I am grateful to the organizers of KORDON RACE, the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment, who made it possible for us to participate this year not only as partners but also as participants, as it was the first time a civilian team was qualified to participate. We passed all the tests with dignity and survived,” said Roman Khimyak, Head of the Department.
