On the Day of Physical Culture and Sport, the water and rowing base “Centre of Olympic Training” in the village of Navaria in the Lviv region hosted the start of the 24th International Lviv Regatta in kayak and canoe rowing. Around 300 young athletes from various regions of Ukraine came to take part in the competition.
Junior men, junior women, boys and girls in several age categories are competing for medals. This year’s regatta has become the first official event to be held at the upgraded water and rowing base “Centre of Olympic Training”.
The organisers emphasise that the Lviv Regatta has a long history and has already become a well-established sporting tradition that continues to be upheld despite the challenges of war. They stress how important it is for children and young people to keep training, taking part in competitions and setting themselves new sporting goals, as sport shapes character, discipline and endurance.
The winners and medallists of this year’s events were awarded together with outstanding Ukrainian canoeists, double Olympic silver medallists and world and European champions Liudmyla Luzan and Anastasiia Rybachok. On the occasion of the Day of Physical Culture and Sport, specialists who have made a significant contribution to the development of physical culture and sport in the Lviv region were also recognised.
The regatta was organised by the Lviv Region Kayak and Canoe Rowing Federation, the Department of Sport, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration and other partners. Participants in the event separately expressed their gratitude to Ukraine’s Defenders, thanks to whom children and young people have the opportunity to train and compete even in wartime conditions.
