Sokal Native Serhiy Kapelus Leads Ukraine U-22 Volleyball Team to Victory Over Italy in Euro Qualifier

Yesterday, Ukraine’s U-22 men’s volleyball team, coached by Sokal’s own Serhiy Kapelus, pulled off a surprise victory against their Italian peers in the European Championship qualifiers—a true sensation for fans.

Today at 18:00, the Ukrainian team will play its final group-stage match against England.

About the coach:

  • Serhiy Kapelus began his sports career in 1997–1998 with VC “Sokil” Sokal while also training at the “Sokolyany” youth sports school.

  • His first coach was Oleksandr Tokazh.

  • Other important mentors included Roman Pletinka and Roman Novatskyi.

  • As a player, he was captain of Ukraine’s national team.

  • He is a Ukrainian champion and Cup winner.

  • He also won the Polish Cup and was a medalist in the Polish championship.

It is also worth noting that at the end of this year, a unique publication titled “100 YEARS OF VOLLEYBALL IN UKRAINE” will be released, featuring Serhiy Kapelus in its “Hall of Fame” section.
