Fencers from Lviv Region Win Gold at European Championship

According to sport.lviv.oda, at the European Fencing Championship for cadets and juniors held in Georgia, fencers from the Lviv region achieved significant success. Anna Maksymenko and Alina Dmytruk became European champions in the junior team épée competition along with Kyiv’s Emily Konrad and Mariya Sereda from Dnipro.

The Ukrainian team won the title of the strongest junior team on the continent for the third consecutive time. On their way to the medal, our girls played four matches, losing only 4 bouts out of 36. In the playoffs, they defeated the teams of Norway, Switzerland, Estonia, and in the final — Hungary.

Additionally, Anna Maksymenko became the European vice-champion in individual sabre competitions, losing in the final to Latvia’s Sofiya Prosina with a score of 13:15. This is Anna’s third consecutive individual medal in this age category after winning gold in 2024 and 2025.

Fencer from the Lviv region Maksym Hula came close to a medal, finishing fifth in both team and individual junior competitions.

“Earlier, cadets from the Lviv region performed excellently in the same competitions. Fencers Yelyzaveta Horbachuk, Alina Dmytruk, and Polina Spyridonova, along with Kyiv’s Margarita Angarska, took second place in the cadet team competition. In the individual épée competition, Yelyzaveta Horbachuk finished third,” noted Roman Khimiak, director of the Department of Sports, Youth, and Tourism of the Lviv region.
