Anna Maksymenko Wins Junior Fencing Championship of Ukraine, Maksym Hula Takes Bronze

The Ukrainian Junior Fencing Championship began in Kyiv on January 19. A total of 74 athletes competed in the women’s épée category. In the finals, Anna Maksymenko secured a decisive victory over Kyiv’s Margarita Angarska with a score of 15:4.

“Anna Maksymenko entered this tournament as Ukraine’s vice-champion. This victory marks her fourth individual gold medal among juniors,” noted Roman Khimyak, Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.

“Each final bout was against a different opponent: Alina Dmytruk, Valeriia Bilous-Hridzhak, Milana Ivanova, and now Margarita Angarska. Every victory brings unique emotions, and I cherish all of them,” Maksymenko shared.


Men’s Competition Results

Another Lviv fencer, Anatolii Savka, earned a silver medal in the men’s épée individual competition. He lost in the final match to Kyiv’s Maksym Mykytenko with a score of 15:11.

Maksym Hula also delivered a strong performance, taking third place in the same discipline.


Coaching and Training

  • Anna Maksymenko and Maksym Hula are students of the “Atlet” Youth Sports School and represent the Regional School of Higher Sports Mastery. They are coached by honored Ukrainian trainers Andrii Orlikovskyi and Zoriana Semeriak.
  • Anatolii Savka trains at the Oleksii Demianyk Youth Sports School under the guidance of Roman Zadorozhnyi.

Team Competitions

On January 20, the championship will continue with team events in épée for men and women.
