The World Canoeing Championships took place in Metkovic (Croatia) and lasted from 19 to 22 September.
Ukraine was represented by 21 athletes at the world rowing marathon. Artem Bocheliuk and Maksym Lavrenchuk won silver medals in the junior double sculls at a distance of 15.4 km. The athletes are representatives of the SDUSSHOR-1. Artem is coached by Roman Bundz, and Maksym is coached by Roman Dmytryshyn.
Another athlete from our region, Tymofii Vozniuk, in a double canoe with Dmytro Chernetskyi (Pervomaisk), took 8th place in the 22.6 km adult race. Tymofii is a representative of the Lviv Regional School of Higher Sportsmanship. He is coached by Oleh and Taras Tymchii and Roman Bundz.
“The Lviv region has one of the best national rowing schools, including centres in Dobrotvir and Navariya. The number of representatives from the Lviv region in the national team is perhaps the largest among all sports: 21 athletes are in the main team, 3 are candidates, and 23 are in the national team reserve. This indicator is one of the main ones that we take into account when determining the priority of supporting the sport,” reminds Roman Khimyak, Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
The recently held XXII Lviv Regatta with a record number of participants – 320 rowers from 23 teams of sports schools – is a vivid example of the education of the younger generation.
