Lviv to select 100 top coaches to receive awards of between 25,000 and 50,000 hryvnias

In Lviv, the selection panel of the city programme “100 Best Coaches of the Lviv City Territorial Community” will choose one hundred mentors who work with children and young people and this year will receive one-off cash awards from the city ranging from 25,000 to 50,000 hryvnias.

This year, 160 coaches from 45 sports applied to take part in the programme. Following the competitive selection, 100 specialists will receive payments after tax:

  • 87 coaches — 25,000 UAH each;
  • 10 coaches with higher performance — 35,000 UAH each;
  • 3 coaches with the best results — 50,000 UAH each.

The “100 Best Coaches” programme was launched in Lviv back in 2015 to support professionals who nurture children and young people, develop youth sport and train future athletes. It provides for an annual competitive selection of the 100 best coaches in the community in sports officially recognised in Ukraine.

In 2025, the programme was updated: a rating system for determining the winners was introduced, and the size of the award now depends on the outcome of the competitive selection.

The competition is organised by the Sports Office of the Lviv City Council. This year applications were accepted from 22 April to 22 May. To participate, coaches submitted documents confirming their professional activity and the sporting achievements of their trainees over the previous year.

Decisions on the winners are taken by the selection panel chaired by the Director of the Sports Office of the Lviv City Council, Anton Nikolin. The panel includes representatives of the City Council, the sports community and the media.

Last year, under the same programme, Lviv also recognised 100 coaches who worked with children and young people in 49 sports, with the awards being presented for the tenth time. Among the three mentors who received the largest awards was athletics coach Tetyana Dorak.

In 2024, the programme was called “Children’s Coach”. At that time, the city recognised 100 specialists from 48 sports, who received certificates and cash payments.

The municipal programme is aimed at supporting coaches who work with children and young people under the age of 18, encouraging their professional development and strengthening the youth sport system in the Lviv community.
