Barrier-Free Pool for Veterans Opened in Lviv

The Lviv City Council announced the opening of the largest inclusive 25-meter pool in the city. The pool is located at the Educational and Sports Base for Summer Sports of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on Kleparivska Street. It is equipped with a special remote-controlled lift that allows wheelchair users to independently enter the water.

The pool will primarily be used for the rehabilitation of veterans, but it is also open to community residents and schoolchildren. The total area of the renovated complex is 2700 m², and up to 12 people can swim in the large pool simultaneously.

Anton Nikulin, Director of the Lviv City Council Sports Office, noted that the main priority is accessibility. From the parking lot, one can easily reach the changing room, take a shower, change clothes, and swim. The city allocated 8 million UAH in subsidies for the reconstruction to create a completely barrier-free sports space.

A feature of the facility is a modern lift that can support up to 227 kg. Mykhailo, a war veteran, has already tested the lift and noted that swimming helps relax the body and relieve tension.

Divers also conducted their first training session in the new pool. Serhiy, a veteran, has been diving for over 10 years and noted that underwater, everyone is equal, regardless of physical abilities.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi emphasized that the pool’s development is an important step in the rehabilitation of military personnel and the development of veteran sports in Lviv. The pool will become a key location for veterans’ underwater swimming.
