Ukrainian athletes shine at the SKIF European Karate Championship
The SKIF European Karate Championship took place from April 25-27, 2025. A total of 779 athletes from 17 countries gathered in Heraklion, Crete, Greece to participate in the grand event. The Ukrainian team included three athletes from the ‘Sokil’ club of the ‘Shotokan Karate-do Chervonohrad-Sokal’ federation, students from Sokal Lyceum No. 3 and Zhyrkivska School I-III degrees.
Results of Ukrainian athletes
Two exhausting days of travel, a day of rest, and three days of intense competition. Enormous nerve and physical strain and… the joy and pride of hearing the Ukrainian anthem while standing on the podium.
As a result of the competition, our athletes added three medals to Ukraine’s collection:
- Anastasia Horbach (Zhyrkivska School I-III degrees) was defeated in the final by a Czech athlete in the category of women born in 2009 (43 participants) and won silver.
- Vladyslav Martyniuk (Sokal Lyceum No. 3) also ranked second in the category of men born in 2007 over 75 kg (31 participants), conceding to a Danish opponent. Vladyslav together with the ‘Gepard’ club athletes won first place in the 16-17-year-old team kumite and received gold medals.
- Daria Savaluk (Sokal Lyceum No. 3) achieved 4th place in team kumite, 17th in individual kata, and 9th in kumite among 43 competitors.
As a result of the competition, the Ukrainian team took 5th place in the team standings, with contributions from our athletes. One gold and two silvers are excellent results at the European Championship!
Congratulations to the participants on their successful performances and we wish them continued victories!
