Lviv canoeist Vitalii Verheles has been recognized as the best athlete of Lviv for May 2025. His coach Roman Bundz was also honored as the city’s best coach of the month. Both were awarded a one-time monetary prize of 40,000 UAH each.
The selection was made by a commission composed of representatives from the National Olympic Committee, sports officials, journalists, and professionals in the sports industry.
Verheles earned this recognition thanks to his outstanding performance at the World Cup stage in Poznań, Poland, where he and his teammates — Taras Mazovskyi, Taras Mishchuk, and Andrii Rybachok — claimed the gold medal in the 500-meter canoe sprint.
This achievement marks a strong start to the international season for the Ukrainian canoe team and highlights the strength of Lviv’s canoeing tradition.
