BORDER GUARD DENYS KUZNETSOV, A DEFENDER OF MARIUPOL, JOINED THE “COVER AMP” FOOTBALL TEAM

Denys Kuznetsov, a serviceman of the Lviv Border Guard Detachment, joined the first football club in Ukraine for players with amputations.

The team was created at the initiative of the Salesian Fathers of the UGCC and consists of 80% of the military who defended their homeland at the front. It is the first amputee football team in Ukraine and the first in the world to train in the snow. Since its inception, the team has added new players. Denys started training this month.

Border guard Denys Kuznetsov has been serving for over 5 years. On February 24, 2022, he met the New Year in his native Mariupol. On command, he arrived at the unit at night, received his weapon and went to his position. As a member of the Mariupol garrison, he kept the city’s defense. On March 17, during a massive shelling, Denys was injured in the limb. His comrades took him to the hospital at Azovstal, where doctors performed surgery. He stayed at the plant for a month and left on May 17. He was first taken to Novoazovsk, then to Donetsk. The border guard returned from enemy captivity as part of an exchange on June 29, 2022.

Denys is an example for his colleagues with his perseverance, diligence, ability to love and appreciate life. He sincerely believes in the victory of Ukraine, and dedicates his teammates who are still in Russian captivity.

This year, the Pokrova AMP players will play in the Polish ROM AMP Football Extra-Class Championship, which is one of the strongest in Europe. The championship is scheduled to start on March 2-3.
We wish Denys and the whole team every success and cheer for our guys!
