School sports leagues, launched last year to promote sports and physical activity among schoolchildren, continue in the educational institutions of the Drohobych community.
The large-scale School Leagues project, implemented by the hromada’s Department of Physical Culture and Sports, covers four sports: basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball and badminton.
Earlier, the volleyball and beach volleyball competitions were held, which resulted in the determination of the winning teams. Today, a new stage of the competition has started – the basketball semi-finals.
The teams from Lyceum No. 4 named after Lesya Ukrainka, Lyceum No. 2 and Lyceum No. 16 named after Yuriy Drohobych started the games. The games took place in the gym of the Bobersky Children’s and Youth Sports School.
Tomorrow, teams from Rikhtytsia Secondary School, Gymnasium No. 17, Gymnasium No. 5 and Bohdan Lepkyi Scientific Lyceum will compete.
The school sports leagues are held in three stages and consist of four sports between teams of community educational institutions, which are formed from students in grades 6-7 and 8-9.
The final stage of the project is the final games for the Drohobych Community League Cup, which is a transitional one and will go to the strongest team every year. The winners of the competition receive new sports uniforms for the men’s and women’s teams, as well as sports equipment for a specific sport.
The sports project was launched in the Drohobych community to increase the interest of schoolchildren in various sports and to promote physical activity among the younger generation. The School Leagues project is currently being implemented as part of the All-Ukrainian School Leagues “Side by Side”.
