The 19-year-old Master of Sports of Ukraine won a bronze medal at the World Junior Sambo Championships among juniors up to 88 kg.
From 10 to 14 October, Larnaca (Cyprus) hosted the World Sambo Championships among juniors (sport and combat), boys and girls and cadets with the participation of the national team of Ukraine.
The national team of Ukraine was represented by 54 athletes, including representatives of Lviv region: Rostyslav Horychyi, Yaroslav Mykhaliuk, Mykhailo Lishchynskyi and Roman Maksymovych. In total, the competition brought together nearly 600 participants from over 30 countries.
Following the three days of competition, Ukrainians won 29 medals in the individual competition (3 gold, 9 silver and 17 bronze) and 4 in the team competition (3 silver and 1 bronze).
Yaroslav Mykhaliuk, an athlete from Lviv region, also added to the medal tally. The 19-year-old master of sports of Ukraine won a bronze medal at the World Sambo Championships among juniors under 88 kg.
Yaroslav Mykhaliuk is a student of the Ivan Bobersky Lviv State University of Physical Culture and a pupil of the Yuriy Kutenko Children and Youth Sports School. He is coached by Semen Sudarikov and Roman Shmilo.
“Training in this particular sport is one of the most popular within the League of the Unconquered, a project of the regional department of youth and sports that focuses on the rehabilitation (habilitation) of military veterans through sports and physical activity.
The development of inclusive sambo (wrestling in the ground) began at the initiative of the Lviv Regional Federation. Later, we shared the experience of inclusive training with other regions of Ukraine,” says Roman Khimyak, head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
