The Ukrainian checkers-64 championship was held in Ivano-Frankivsk the other day.
Lviv Oblast was represented at these competitions by chess players from Yavoriv Oblast and Turkiv Oblast. Some of them even managed to win gold awards.
In particular, nine-year-old Sofia Lenevich from Turka became the champion. She won 6 victories over sportswomen from Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions and, after drawing with the second representative of Vinnytsia Alina Valyuk, scored 13 points out of 14 possible. Therefore, she confidently took first place and became the champion of Ukraine in the category “Young hopes under 10 years old”.
Subsequently, Sofia added a silver medal in the lightning game among girls under 10 years to the gold medal in the fast game. And Solomiya Kretsul won a silver medal among girls under 16 years old. female athletes are training at Yunist Junior High School. Bohdan Moskal helps them master the art of playing chess.
In the fast game, the national team of Lviv Oblast took the second team place after Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, which in recent years has been the leader in the development of checkers in Ukraine. And in a lightning-fast game, the Kyivans managed to overtake the Lviv Oblast, but our team confidently took the third team place.
