
Young cyclists from Drohobych delivered a strong performance at the Ukrainian Track Cycling Championships, which took place from 30 May to 4 June in Kyiv on an open-air concrete track. The competition for men and women under 23, as well as junior men and women, brought together 128 athletes from 18 teams from across the country. The results of the Drohobych participants were reported by the Head of the Education Department, Petro Shev’yak.
Despite constant air-raid alerts and enemy attacks on the capital, the athletes showed resilience and achieved high results. Particularly distinguished were the trainees of the Olympic Training Centre (Lviv) and the specialised youth sports school “Medyk”, who claimed a number of medals of various colours.
Among the junior men, Artur Stetsiv took 1st place in the 4 km team pursuit as part of the Lviv region team, with the winners’ average speed reaching 55.32 km/h. He also took 2nd place in the 3 km individual pursuit, 2nd place in the 7.5 km scratch race and 3rd place in the Madison (50 laps) together with Arsen Matskiv.
Junior rider Anastasiia Saturova won 1st place in the 4 km team pursuit as part of the Ukrainian national team, with an average speed of 47.65 km/h. She also finished 3rd in the 7.5 km scratch race, 3rd in the Omnium (based on the total of four events) and came fifth in the 3 km individual pursuit.
Pavlo Lozynskyi and Nazar Pyl, who competed for the “Lviv region-2” team, finished just short of the podium, taking 4th place in the team pursuit. In addition, Pavlo Lozynskyi recorded the 9th result in the Omnium.
In the men under 23 category, Nazarii Pavych collected a full set of medals in the track disciplines. He became champion in the team sprint as part of the Ukrainian national team with a speed of 56.5998 km/h, took 2nd place in the sprint and 3rd place in the keirin.
The athletes, their coaches and teams received congratulations on their achievements, which have become a significant success for cycling in Drohobych.
