Yesterday, January 22, the championship of Ukraine in freestyle wrestling among men and women under 23 years of age ended in Transcarpathia. The Lviv Oblast team, with the support of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Oblast, was represented by 26 wrestlers.
As a result of the competition, the national team of the Lviv region became the champion of Ukraine in the overall team competition among women. Three wrestlers won gold medals at once. Two more athletes became silver medalists and one bronze medalist. Such a medal harvest testifies not only to the high level of development of wrestling in the Lviv Region, but also to the fact that our region will have someone to cheer for at the European Championship, which will take place in March. It was at the championship of Ukraine in Transcarpathia that wrestlers were selected for the team that will represent Ukraine at these competitions.
The champion of Ukraine in the weight category up to 57 kg was 19-year-old Oleksandra Khomenets, a student of the Lviv Regional Professional College of Sports. Oleksandra, we will remind, was recognized as the best athlete of the Lviv region according to the results of 2022. The athlete is trained by Andrii Byrka and Orest Skobelskyi.
In the weight category up to 65 kg, 21-year-old Oksana Chudyk became the champion. The athlete is trained by Stepan Tkachyshyn and Oleksandr Rakovsky at the Complex Children’s and Youth Sports School “Athlet”. The third place in this category was won by 19-year-old representative of Lviv Oblast Anita Yakovleva. She is coached by Taras Pytlyuk and Ihor Duh on the basis of the regional school of higher sportsmanship and the “Athlete” school.
19-year-old Manola Skobelska also won the gold of the competition. She became the champion in the weight category up to 68 kg. The pupil of the Lviv Regional College of Sports is coached by Orest Skobelskyi. 19-year-old Karolina Povk became the vice-champion in this weight category. She is coached by Oleksandr Rakovsky at KDYUSH “Athlet”.
Maria Orlevich, a student of the Lviv Professional College of Sports, won silver in the weight category up to 76 kg. Orest Skobelsky trains the athlete.
Among the men, 21-year-old Danylo Stasiuk and 20-year-old Yuri Vovk won medals. Danylo became the vice-champion in the weight category up to 125 kg. He is a master of sports of Ukraine of international class. The athlete is training at the FST Dynamo base under the guidance of Viktor Hlibenko. Master of Sports of Ukraine Yuriy Vovk won bronze in the weight category up to 65 kg. The athlete of the Lviv Regional School of Higher Sports Mastery is coached by Ihor Duh. Pavlo Vaskovsky was also close to a medal, taking fifth place in the 86 kg weight category.
