For the first time in the history of independent Ukraine, the national team of Lviv region took first team place in the classical programme.
The Ukrainian Draughts 64 Championship among youth and young men was held in Yavoriv from 25 to 30 November in the classical programme. In this discipline, the matches consisted of two games and each participant had 40 minutes per game + 10 seconds per move.
The national team of Lviv region was represented by draughtsmen from Turka (coach Bohdan Moskal) and Yavoriv (coaches Ihor Kunanets and Yuriy Kunets).
The team from Turka made a significant contribution to the team standings.
Sofia Lenevich confidently became the champion of Ukraine among girls under 10 with a score of 13 points out of 14 possible. In total, Sofia won two gold and one silver medal at this Championship and confirmed that she is unrivalled in Ukraine among girls under 10.
In this programme, Ruslan Monych (Turka) took 3rd place among the U26s. By the way, Ruslan drew with the Ukrainian adult champion, Master of Sports Matvey Kolesnikov from Mykolaiv, as well as with grandmaster Anastasia Glushko from Kharkiv.
After winning first place in the rapid game and second in the lightning game among boys under 10, young Turkiv resident Andriy Yavorsky had a somewhat unsuccessful start to the competition in the classical programme, but after winning two victories in the final rounds, he took a high fifth place.
Draughtsmen from Yavoriv district also did not lag behind.
“Mykhailo Shcheholskyi took second place among junior cadets under 13, Maksym Kvasniak took third place among cadets under 16, Bohdan Slyzh took second place among young hopefuls under 8, Bozhena Panychok and Anna Nakintsiv from Yavoriv district took second and third place among girls under 8, respectively. Thanks to these successful performances, the national team of Lviv region took first place in the classic programme of the Ukrainian Draughts Championship-64 for the first time in the history of independent Ukraine,” says Roman Khimyak, head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
