These competitions are dedicated to the memory of our compatriot, the talented cyclist Andriy Kutsenko. Andriy was not just an outstanding athlete. Master of Sports of Ukraine of international class, multiple Ukrainian champion, participant in European and world championships—his name will forever remain in the history of Ukrainian cycling. Andriy fought his last battle as part of the 47th separate mechanized brigade “Magura” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Additionally, amateur competitions will be held within the framework of the event to raise funds for the support of Marko Hladysh, the son of European track cycling champion Roman Hladysh. “Today, naming sports, artistic, and youth events after contemporary heroes who have fallen in the Russo-Ukrainian war is not just a mark of respect. It is an important act of national memory, education, and self-awareness. This way, we preserve the names of heroes not only in memorial plaques or books but in the living space of life—where a new generation is being formed,” says Roman Khimyak, head of the Department of Sports, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
Furthermore, according to Strava—an activity tracking service for athletes using mobile devices, year after year, despite the war, the roads of Lviv region attract cycling enthusiasts, and certain national-level competitions and amateur cycling events have already become community highlights.
