Nordic Walking Competition in Lviv Sets Record

The Nordic walking competition ‘Lviv Autumn’ gathered a record number of participants.

The event took place on October 18 in Bryukhovychi, gathering 150 athletes from all over Ukraine, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and other cities. The oldest participant was 85 years old, and the youngest was only 12. The competition was held for the first time according to the international ONWF standards, which define rules and technical norms for Nordic walking.

Results of the ‘Lviv Autumn’ Competition

In the 5 km race, the winners were Mykola Kulinich and Oksana Zaliska from Lviv. In the 10 km race, the first places were taken by Mykhailo Surmai from Lviv and Lilia Bondarenko from Kyiv. In the family 10 km race, the winners were Volodymyr and Svitlana Andreevi.

‘Over 15 million people worldwide regularly engage in Nordic walking. It is one of the safest and most effective types of physical activity, combining benefits for the heart, joints, and the entire musculoskeletal system. The number of Nordic walking enthusiasts in Ukraine, and especially in Lviv region, continues to grow — as confirmed by the third ‘Lviv Autumn 2025′, which gathered a record number of participants this weekend,’ said Roman Khimiak, director of the Department of Sports, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration.

The tournament was organized by the Lviv Regional Center for Physical Health ‘Sport for All’ and the NGO ‘Ukrainian Nordic Walking Association’ with the support of the international Nordic Walking federation ONWF.
