Andrey Sheptytsky: Patron, Investor and Cultural Figure

Lecture on Andrey Sheptytsky at the Sheptytsky Public Library

Did you know that Andrey Sheptytsky collected icons and at one time donated about 12,000 icons to the Ukrainian people, initiated the opening of Oleksa Novakivskyi’s art school, and opened a hospital in Lviv and a ‘secret’ university for Ukrainian students? These and many other interesting facts were discovered by the residents of our city who yesterday, February 27th, visited the Sheptytsky Public Library for a lecture by Maria Boyko, founder of the ‘Hawk’s Nest’ tourist center.

Contribution of Andrey Sheptytsky to the Development of Culture and Education

Maria has conducted more than 100 lectures about the life and work of the metropolitan. By the way, many educational institutions in our community have already had the wonderful opportunity to listen to Maria Boyko’s story and get better acquainted with the figure of Andrey Sheptytsky. This time, she gladly accepted the city council’s invitation, so everyone interested had a chance to learn about the life of the leader of the Ukrainian church.

The Significance of the Lecture for the Community

During the meeting, attendees discovered Andrey Sheptytsky not only as a religious but also as a public figure, patron, successful investor, art connoisseur, and intellectual. A pleasant surprise at the end of the meeting was a collection of books about the metropolitan, which was donated to the library by entrepreneur and patron, city council deputy Vitaliy Ryndyk.
