Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have been forced to flee their homes due to the war. Among them – many brave people who overcome this path with their pets. Volunteers hand out safety backpacks to those who arrived in Lviv, Kyiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Kharkiv and Zaporizhia
Assistance was provided by the American organization Greater Goods Charities at the request of the all-Ukrainian initiative Save Pets of Ukraine.
“We are proud of the Ukrainians who rescue their four-legged companions during the evacuation. Unfortunately, people do not always have the opportunity to take their belongings with them. That is why such safety backpacks provide the basic needs of animals during the evacuation, ”said Kateryna Kovalyuk, Chief of Staff of Save Pets of Ukraine.
The kits include basic necessities for animals: a bowl, a leash, a toy and food for a cat or dog. For the owner in a backpack: socks, T-shirt and essential cosmetics. Of the common things: a blanket that can be used as a place to rest for the animal and the owner, a water bottle, antiseptic – safe for both hands and feet of the animal. More than 1,000 such evacuation kits have already been distributed. Some of the backpacks were transferred to the Lviv shelter, where evacuees from hotspots with animals now live. The rest were distributed in Kyiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Kharkiv and Zaporizhia.
Save Pets of Ukraine continues to help cats and dogs. In the last two months, the initiative has already distributed 220 tons of fodder worth over 10 million hryvnias. Our team works systematically with the European U-hearts Foundation to provide animals with free humanitarian food in all regions of Ukraine.
