The strength of family bonds and civic duty was demonstrated by Luiz Toledo, father of the late Brazilian volunteer. He travelled over 10,000 kilometres to reach Lviv at his son Luiz Felipe Vieira Toledo Porto’s grave, who died at the end of November 2025 defending Ukraine. This was reported on Facebook.
Luiz Toledo, a retired policeman, emphasised that his son’s decision was conscious and considered, for he intended to fight for justice. For the father, his son’s comrades have become new children, which is why he frequently visits the city.
The family expressed gratitude to Lviv for the memory and respect for their son. Luiz Toledo received an honorary St. George’s insignia, and in return, he gifted the city a flag of his hometown Teresópolis, in Brazil.
