In the Lviv region, due to heavy rainfall, the Shchyrka and Zubra rivers overflowed, causing flooding.
To coordinate actions and mitigate the consequences of the weather disaster, a meeting of the regional commission on technogenic and environmental safety and emergency situations was held. As a result of the flooding, the settlements of Sknyliv, Zubra, Sokolnyky, and Zymna Voda were affected. The road ‘Lviv–Pustomyty–Medenychi’, 22 streets, about 180 cars, and 200 residential houses were flooded. Water entered a kindergarten and an outpatient clinic in Sokolnyky.
In Lviv, the highest amount of precipitation was recorded, with 9 streets and 25 roofs flooded. Traffic light system malfunctions are observed, and efforts to eliminate consequences are ongoing. “Traffic started to pass on the section in Sokolnyky, the roadside was reinforced, but the movement has not been fully restored yet”, the commission noted.
Overall, more than 44,000 subscribers in the region were left without electricity. Representatives of the regional center of disease control and prevention confirmed their readiness for prompt research of drinking water quality. In case of worsening situation, there are sufficient reagents available.
At the meeting, heads of communities were instructed to organize inspections of destroyed buildings and structures, assess the extent of damages, and determine the amounts needed for restoration. The situation is under control, the water level is decreasing, and all necessary services are working on site.
