Surprisingly survived: an opera singer was evacuated to a Lviv hospital, who came under fire, rescuing people

29-year-old Serhiy Ivanchuk from Poltava is currently receiving medical treatment in Lviv. He evacuated people from hotspots every day, but one day his car came under fire. The man received five bullet wounds to the liver, both legs, fingers and lungs. His condition was critical, and he miraculously survived.

This was reported in the First Medical Association of Lviv.

Since Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine began, Serhiy has been bringing humanitarian aid to Kharkiv and Okhtyrka, and on the way back he has been evacuating people from hotspots. In total, he managed to save about 50 people from Saltivka and Okhtyrka. But on March 10, he came under fire.

“The enemy DRG followed us for one and a half kilometers and fired, but we still managed to reach our checkpoint, where we were rescued. I received five bullets, but miraculously no one was injured in the car – there were four people and two cats. We were rescued by a trailer in which we took part of the medical clinic, and it became our armor from behind, “Serhiy said.

The man was actually saved by the fact that he was accompanied by medics, whom he evacuated. The doctor covered the shot back with his palm, and already at the checkpoint the Ukrainian military medics gave Serhiy first aid and took him to the nearest hospital in seven minutes.

“I could not do otherwise. I saved people. It was scary, but I, like all volunteers, understand who but me? Every day I got in my car and took people out of the hot spots, ”says the man. He adds that there were cases when people were taken away today, and rockets were hit in their homes tomorrow.

Serhiy lay in the intensive care unit of Kharkiv for 16 days and miraculously survived. He admits that for weeks he dreamed of the horrors of his experience. He has now been transferred to the First Medical Association of Lviv, where he will continue his treatment.

The man is very hopeful that he will be able to recover the injured fingers. After all, he is a musician, sings in opera, plays a musical instrument. And he is convinced that he, like each of us – everything is ahead, and everything will be fine.

By the way, 8 more victims of the war were taken by medical train from Donetsk region to the First Medical Association of Lviv. In total, more than 2,000 patients from Lysychansk, Bakhmut, Popasna, Slovyansk and other Ukrainian cities have been evacuated here in the last month.
