The medical congress is being held in Lviv Oblast for the fourth time. This is a platform for discussing important topics among healthcare professionals.
This year, the event was dedicated to the theme of “Public Health”. The Congress was divided into 5 panel discussions.
Throughout the day, the speakers discuss the influence of the community on the life expectancy of its residents and the level of disease, what is the “healthy workplace” of an employee in health care institutions, whether mental health is part of public health and, of course, about what in the region there are priorities and challenges in implementing rehabilitation services.
As the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, said during his speech, the priority of the Lviv Region for the next year is to teach teachers, social and medical workers, clergy to recognize anxiety states in people and refer them to specialists.
“A very apt question, ‘How are you?’ works not only in the field of mental health. did you have breakfast Did you get enough sleep? Did you measure the pressure? It seems simple, but all this plays a big role in the prevention of diseases. Do not forget to ask these questions to your loved ones and do not forget to answer them honestly yourself. No one in our region should be left alone with their psychological problems, because they are the root of many others. We will also develop a network of assisted living facilities in our region so that lonely elderly and disabled people can live a full life and feel needed. Partners who have international experience in such projects will help us in this. I would like to thank all the specialists who are already doing a lot for public health in the Lviv region – information campaigns on the prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases, lectures on how to take care of your health already from school desks organized by the “Listen to the Doctor” project, training in pre-medical care, conducted in all districts by specialists of our emergency service – and this is far from an exhaustive list. Thank you all!”, added the head of the region.
A clear example of a successful public health program is the tobacco reduction program implemented in our region. It does not belong to the medical field, but its implementation makes it possible to reduce the incidence of respiratory tract diseases – both among smokers and among other categories, such as children.
“We are trying to implement measures for the development of public health among the students of education. This is about preventing diseases, prolonging life, strengthening health. That is why the campaign “Schools without tobacco and nicotine” was introduced in general secondary education institutions. Our experts talk about the dangers of using tobacco products and electronic cigarettes. There are stories when children give up a bad habit themselves, and then tell their parents about its harm. We understand that such measures are effective only when the efforts of all communities are united. We want to create such an environment in all educational institutions together with the specialists of the departments of the Lviv OVA, the Disease Prevention Control Center. Pupils should know how to take care of their health,” noted Director of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention Nataliya Ivanchenko.
Another example of concern for public health is the spread of seat belt practices or the use of child car seats. If the medical field takes care of the consequences of traffic accidents, public health is doing everything to reduce the number of road accidents.
We will remind you that in October of this year, the Law of Ukraine “On the Public Health System” entered into force. This system should contribute to strengthening health, preventing diseases, improving the quality and increasing the life expectancy of Ukrainians, in particular due to the prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases and access to immunoprophylaxis services. This approach was chosen by European countries, where the average life expectancy for men is 72 years, for women – 80. Instead, Ukraine’s indicators over the past 20 years remain on average 5 years lower than European ones.
Prevention of the development of diseases and control over them is provided for by the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. The law guarantees food, drinking water, environment, working conditions, education, education, life, leisure, recreation to every person that are safe for health and life. At the same time, it obliges citizens to take care of their health, health and hygienic upbringing of children, not to harm the health of others, etc.
