
A resident of Ternopil region is suspected of attempting to illegally import electronic cigarettes into Ukraine.
According to the investigation, in September of this year, a 34-year-old driver of a “Mersedes-Benz Sprinter” attempted to illegally bring electronic cigarettes into Ukraine without excise tax stamps, which he received in Germany. During a vehicle inspection, 1440 electronic cigarettes with various flavors were discovered. The estimated value of the goods is 164,000 UAH. The seized goods and vehicle have been confiscated.
Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the man has been notified of suspicion of illegal transportation for the purpose of sale of excise goods (Part 1 Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pre-trial investigation is conducted by the Territorial Administration of the Bureau of Economic Security in the Lviv region in cooperation with Lviv Customs, with operational support from the 7th Border Carpathian Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven legally and established by a court verdict.
