On June 10, the Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of the draft Law on the declaration of natural territories of Morshyn as a resort of state importance.
The draft law provides for the declaration of a resort of state importance: the natural territories of Morshyn, the natural territories of the Morshyn deposit of mineral therapeutic brines and the natural territories of the Nyniv deposit of mineral therapeutic brines of the Lviv region; approval of district boundaries and zones of mining and sanitary protection of Morshyn resort.
“This is an extraordinary event and a huge victory for the Lviv region. The first resort of state importance officially appeared in our region. More than four and a half years ago, the Lviv Regional State Administration appealed to the CMU with a request to declare Morshyn’s natural areas a resort of state importance, and today it happened! Morshyn is a wonderful place not only for recovery, but also for restoration, rehabilitation and rest. Another powerful tourist magnet in the Lviv region, which will attract thousands of vacationers after our victory. However, the resort also needs the involvement of investors who will revive the infrastructure of the sanatorium-resort and recreation complex to provide first-class service,” said the head of Lviv OVA, Maksym Kozytskyi.
The fact that Morshyn has acquired the status of a resort of state importance is an argument to appeal to the government of Ukraine to develop and adopt at the state level the Program for the Support and Development of Resort Territories of State Importance of Ukraine, which will provide financial support, including for resorts of state importance in Lviv Oblast.
In accordance with the Program for the Support and Development of Resort Territories of State Importance of Ukraine, it is possible to develop a regional Program for the Development of Resort Territories of Lviv Oblast.
“This status will allow us to preserve and ensure the protection of the unique resort complex, contribute to the development of its infrastructure, increase its investment attractiveness, and most importantly, it will allow us to continue to use this unique medical complex for the recovery of the residents of Ukraine, to restore the strength and health of our soldiers who are on rotation or rehabilitation,” said Taras Lozynskyi, head of the Department of Tourism and Resorts of the Lviv OVA.
The results of the analysis of the current state of the resort and recreation potential of the region showed that 251 manifestations of natural mineral waters of different chemical composition and mineralization were discovered in the territory of Lviv region.
The natural mineral healing waters of the Morshynskoye deposit are unique, as the mineral waters available in European countries are similar in chemical composition to the Morshynskoye oil, but have several times less mineralization.
On the territory of the Morshyn community, 9 manifestations of natural mineral waters were investigated, of which 4 have a medical (balneological) conclusion. In addition to the above, a medical (balneological) opinion was drawn up and issued for 9 diluted medicinal waters.
There are other resorts in the Lviv region that claim the status of a resort of state importance. For example, Truskavets is popular among tourists. In July 2021, an appeal was sent to DART with a request to declare the natural area of Truskavets a resort area of state importance. At present, cartographic materials on the definition of borders are being finalized and relevant documents are being searched in the archives.
