Customs officers stopped a Ukrainian citizen who attempted to smuggle ancient coins and American currency abroad.
During the inspection of a RENAULT KANGOO, which was leaving Ukraine via ‘Ugryniv – Dolhobychuv’, customs officers discovered ancient coins and undeclared currency from a 47-year-old passenger. Specifically, the 47-year-old woman tried to export 29 coins, the oldest of which dates back to 1767, and 23 thousand US dollars.
The coins, which may have historical value, have been seized for examination. The cash that does not exceed the legal limit of 10 thousand euros was returned to the citizen. The remaining cash – 11 thousand 315 dollars, which according to the NBU exchange rate on August 18 is 9 thousand 683.27 euros, was confiscated pending resolution of the case in legal proceedings.
Administrative protocols were drawn up under Article 471, Part 3 and Article 471, Part 1 of the Customs Code of Ukraine (CCU) regarding these incidents.
