Representatives of the WHO emergency mission are currently in Lviv region to discuss cooperation.
Today, September 19, the leadership of the Lviv region met with the Regional Emergency Director for Health at the WHO European Regional Office, Ihor Perehinets, and representatives of the WHO emergency mission. During the meeting, the parties discussed strengthening cooperation with the Lviv Regional Center of Emergency Medical Aid and Disaster Medicine and the charitable foundation “Medical Mission” regarding the provision of cross-border medical evacuations of Ukrainian citizens for free specialized medical care in foreign clinics, as well as enhancing the capabilities of the emergency medical assistance service in readiness and response to emergencies.
“The projects currently implemented by our regional disaster medicine center are very important to us. In particular, this includes the Medevac Ukraine program, which ensures the medical evacuation of Ukrainian citizens for free specialized medical care in foreign clinics and the repatriation of patients to Ukraine after completing treatment abroad. Thanks to our partners and the organizational capacity of the Ukrainian emergency medical assistance system, it enables its further integration into the European network. I am convinced that with joint efforts with the Ministry of Health, we will ensure decent salaries for emergency specialists who work 24/7 and provide timely medical assistance. For our part, we are ready to support important health sector projects, establishing cooperation, and expanding the capabilities of medical institutions,” emphasized acting chairman of the Lviv Regional Council Yuriy Kholod.
“It is very honorable to be part of unique missions in which the Lviv Regional Center for Emergency Aid and Disaster Medicine is involved. I am convinced that soon Ukrainian teams will be able to share their experience with foreign colleagues in responding to emergencies,” said Regional Emergency Director for Health at the WHO European Regional Office, Ihor Perehinets.
Thanks to the WHO European Regional Office, in cooperation with the Lviv Regional Center of Emergency Medical Aid, international partners, and coordinated by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, about 5,000 medical evacuations of our citizens have already been carried out abroad.
