The rolling stock used for suburban passenger services is being modernized in the Lviv region. Ukrainian Railways is introducing modern PESA railbuses that will operate on five routes within the region and beyond.
The new trains will serve the following routes:
- Stariava – Sambir;
- Nyzhankovychi – Sambir;
- Khodoriv – Lviv;
- Sambir – Stryi;
- Stryi – Ivano-Frankivsk.
The railbuses comply with current European requirements for passenger transport. Their introduction is expected to improve the quality of suburban railway services and make daily journeys safer and more comfortable.
Facilities available on PESA railbuses
The new rolling stock has been equipped with the facilities required for comfortable travel throughout the year. The passenger compartments feature air-conditioning and heating systems, modern restrooms, and information displays.
Passengers will also be able to use electrical sockets and USB ports to charge smartphones and other mobile devices. Dedicated spaces are available for bicycles, suitcases, and other luggage.
The main features of the new railbuses include:

New transport adapted for passengers with reduced mobility
Particular attention was paid to accessibility when the railbuses were equipped. The rolling stock features ramps and specially designed spaces for wheelchair users and other passengers with reduced mobility.
Orest Shulikovskyi, Director of the Road Infrastructure Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration, said that modernizing suburban railway services is an important part of developing the region’s transport system.
According to him, the launch of PESA railbuses will provide residents of the Lviv region with safer and more comfortable travel conditions, as well as a higher standard of passenger service. He also emphasized that the accessibility of the new rolling stock for all categories of passengers is a particularly important feature of the project.
