Declaration of Weapons in Lviv Region: Exemption from Liability
Citizens who declare unregistered weapons at police units are exempt from criminal liability. Since the beginning of the campaign for the declaration of unregistered weapons, citizens have approached police units in Lviv region and declared 86 firearms. Specifically:
- 19 automatic rifles
- 7 carbine rifles
- 2 units of combined weapons
- 51 shotguns
- 7 pistols and revolvers
- almost 23,260 rounds of ammunition of various calibers
Procedure for Declaration of Weapons
According to the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring Civilian Participation in the Defense of Ukraine,” which came into effect on November 25, 2024, a person who voluntarily applies to declare weapons will not be subject to criminal liability and will also have the opportunity to declare the said weapons and register them in their name.
During the declaration of unaccounted weapons, the applicant must specify:
- personal data (surname, first name, patronymic, date of birth, contact phone, address of residence and registration)
- time, place, and circumstances under which they obtained or found the weapon
- have or specify the location of the weapons or ammunition
- write an application expressing the desire to declare or surrender the weapon
If a citizen is unable to personally come to the police unit, they must call the 102 hotline and agree with law enforcement on the time and place where a police unit will arrive to seize the weapons or ammunition.
Addresses of Units for Declaration
Citizens who declare weapons receive a notification coupon about the declaration and are allowed to legally store weapons and ammunition. Law enforcement officers explain to each owner the safety rules, carrying, storage, and transportation of firearms and ammunition, and warn about liability for their violation.
So, if you find firearms or ammunition, you need to declare them immediately. This can be done in the units of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region at the following addresses:
