Do not provide your card details and do not follow dubious links: the police of the Lviv region advised how to avoid cyber fraud

By obtaining the necessary data, attackers gain access to your bank accounts, from where they withdraw all savings, transferring them to controlled bank accounts, making purchases or withdrawing your money through terminals.

So, on November 10, a 56-year-old resident of the city of Truskavets turned to the police, who reported that she was cheated by online fraudsters while selling a coat on the OLX website. As the law enforcement officers established, during the correspondence, an unknown person offered to make a full prepayment and, having learned the details of the victim’s bank card, took possession of her funds in the amount of 25 thousand hryvnias.

Law enforcement officers are investigating all the circumstances of the incident and are taking all measures to identify the fraudster.

The police of Lviv Oblast remind once again:

– never tell third parties your bank card data, its validity period, PIN code or SVV code indicated on the back of the card, personal data or password

– do not report codes from SMS messages received from unknown numbers to confirm a transaction or verify a card – this is how fraudsters gain access to your account;

– do not share online banking passwords;

– do not respond to SMS where you are offered to choose a selection key as if to perform an operation – in this way, attackers hack your phone and gain access to card accounts;

– do not follow dubious links received by e-mail, messengers or in the form of SMS messages;

– use only official mobile applications of your bank and conduct all transactions only on official websites.

In case of an operation that is doubtful, call the banking institution (the hotline number is indicated on your card or on the official websites of the banks) and make sure that it is safe.

If you do become a victim of online fraud, contact the police immediately on 102.

Don’t be fooled!
