US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink opened an American House in Lviv

As part of her first official visit to Lviv as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Ukraine, Mrs. Bridget Brink visited the American House in Lviv.

This is the cultural center of the United States, which began its work in test mode at the beginning of October this year. It is one of more than six hundred American spaces around the world and provides opportunities for youth learning, development and cultural exchange. In Ukraine, this is already the third American House after Kyiv and Odesa. However, it is currently the only one that operates and accepts offline visitors.

At the end of February, when Russia unreasonably attacked Ukraine with a major war, this space, like many others in the city, became a refuge for those Ukrainians who were escaping the occupation and active hostilities. In close cooperation with the city’s coordination centers, over 40 internally displaced persons were settled here over the course of three months.

“It is wonderful to meet so many enterprising young people during the opening of the American House in Lviv. Since the beginning of the brutal full-scale Russian invasion, Lviv has become a humanitarian and volunteer center. In the most difficult months, this space was also a refuge for those Ukrainians who were forced to flee from the war zone and leave their homes. I am sure that now it will also help young people realize their potential and gain new knowledge and contacts that they can use for the development and prosperous future of their country,” Ambassador Bridget Brink emphasized during the official opening of the American House in Lviv.

Currently, Lviv residents can familiarize themselves with the possibilities and space of the American House during events by pre-registration. Lectures, master classes, discussions, film screenings and many other events from the house team and partner organizations take place here. You can also join the conversation club online every week and practice English with a native speaker.

The space also positions itself as a platform for content creation: in the equipped room for recording podcasts and interviews, you can use the available equipment and software. The local Maker Space is equipped with the most modern and unique for Ukraine 3D printer of an experimental model, as well as devices for creating stickers and designs on flat surfaces and fabrics.

“There could have been a lot of things in this space, but now there are a lot of people and energy here, and the most important thing is that new ideas are and will be born here. This is the most important thing.

It is also significant that this is the American House, because the United States now plays a very important role in supporting Ukraine. So this is a synergy that definitely has a future perspective. I wish everyone to come here and feel this atmosphere,” said First Deputy Mayor of Lviv Andriy Moskalenko.

Participation in events and use of the facilities of the American House in Lviv are free of charge.
