Fire in Dobrotvir: Infant Hospitalized Due to Smoke

In the village of Dobrotvir, Sheptytskyi region, a fire occurred in an apartment due to a short circuit.

On January 26 at 18:50, the Rescue Service received a report of a fire in an apartment on the first floor of a nine-story residential building. Upon arrival, firefighting units found the premises completely filled with toxic smoke. Rescuers, wearing respiratory protection equipment, conducted a survey and found that the source of the fire was in the kitchen.

The probable cause of the fire was a short circuit in an extension cord. Due to the presence of household items nearby, the fire spread to an area of about 1 square meter, causing heavy smoke in the apartment. Firefighters quickly contained the fire, and by 18:59, it was extinguished.

It was found that at the time of the fire, a woman and her three-month-old daughter were in the apartment. They had evacuated the dangerous premises on their own before the rescuers arrived. After being examined by medics, the infant was hospitalized at St. Nicholas Hospital with a preliminary diagnosis of smoke inhalation poisoning.

Three rescuers and one unit of special equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire. Rescuers emphasize: do not overload electrical networks and use only functional electrical appliances and extension cords. Responsible adherence to electrical safety is the key to safety in every home.
