Border Guards Discover Cigarette Smuggling in Minibus

At the Polish border, border guards discovered cigarette smuggling in a minibus.

Upon leaving Ukraine, border guards from the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment, in collaboration with detachment operatives and customs officers, uncovered an attempt to illegally transport 1,038 packs of tobacco products without excise tax stamps. The violation was detected during an inspection of a Ford minibus driven by a 33-year-old resident of Lviv region. To conceal the goods, a double roof was constructed in the vehicle, where the cigarettes were stored.

To confiscate the illegal cargo, border guards had to partially dismantle elements of the vehicle’s roof, indicating a premeditated nature of the violation. The preliminary estimated value of the confiscated tobacco products and the vehicle used in the violation is over 200 thousand hryvnias. A notification regarding the violation has been sent to the Lviv Regional Bureau for Economic Security for further legal action.
