Rescuer from Khodoriv Saved a Man During a Fire
On February 14, rescuer Ihor Makohin from the city of Khodoriv saved a 45-year-old man during a fire in a residential building in the village of Chornyi Ostriv while off duty.
«I don’t consider myself a hero. A rescuer does not choose time or place, he acts on a calling,» the rescuer says.
Fire in Chornyi Ostriv
That morning, Ihor Makohin was off. Around 10 AM, a neighbor called him and reported that black smoke was billowing from a nearby house and that there was likely someone inside. The rescuer immediately rushed to the scene. The house doors were locked, and thick black smoke was pouring out of the windows. Without wasting time, Ihor used his hat as a face mask, found a ladder, and climbed into the smoke-filled building.
Rescue Operation
There was no one in the room where the floor was smoldering, so the rescuer continued his search and found the unconscious 45-year-old owner in the hallway. He quickly carried the victim outside to fresh air, provided first aid, and called for medics. Upon arrival, they hospitalized the man in one of Lviv’s hospitals.
Meanwhile, another neighbor arrived at the house and, together with rescuer Ihor Makohin, used buckets of water to extinguish the flames and save the house and property.
This story serves as a reminder: together, we are stronger. Take care of yourself, adhere to fire safety rules, and don’t be indifferent to others.
