Stepan Hiha to be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery

The People’s Artist of Ukraine, Stepan Hiha, will be buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv.

This was announced by the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi. “Stepan Hiha wished to be buried in Lviv, at the Lychakiv Cemetery. We are fulfilling his last will,” said Andriy Sadovyi.

Farewell to the People’s Artist will begin on Sunday, December 14, at 16:00 in the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul (11 Teatralna St.). At 19:00, a Parastas ceremony will be held. The farewell will last until 23:00 in the church.

The funeral service will begin on Monday, December 15, at 14:00 in the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul (11 Teatralna St.). Approximately at 15:00, a city-wide farewell ceremony will take place at Rynok Square, near the town hall.

Stepan Hiha will be buried at the 75th field of the Lychakiv Cemetery. The organization of the farewell and burial is being handled by the Lviv City Council.

The well-known Ukrainian pop singer died from illness at the age of 66.

Biographical Note

Stepan Hiha was born in the village of Bilky in the Zakarpattia region in 1959. He received his musical education at the Uzhhorod Music College and the Kyiv Conservatory.

His first solo album was released in 1995. Three years later, he received the title of Honored Artist, and in 2002, the title of People’s Artist of Ukraine.
