Plastic windows replaced with wooden ones in historic Lviv building on Heroiv Maidanu Street under co-financing program

In a historic residential building located at 18 Heroiv Maidanu Street in Lviv, two plastic windows and a balcony unit were replaced with wooden versions as part of the city’s co-financing program coordinated by the Heritage Bureau (LKP “Buro Spadshchyny”). The building, constructed in the 1930s, is officially listed as a historical monument.

🔹 Why the replacement mattered
According to experts, the previous owners had installed single-pane plastic windows that not only disrupted the building’s historic façade but also lacked proper energy efficiency. The new residents applied for the co-financing program, which enabled the restoration in 2025.

🔹 What was installed

  • Two wooden windows and one balcony unit made from 78 mm eurobeam

  • Installed with double-glazed insulating units

  • Window handles modeled on historical designs

  • Window frame divisions recreated based on preserved samples from the second floor

🔹 Project cost and funding
The total project cost amounted to UAH 129,798, split equally between:

  • UAH 64,899 from the city budget

  • UAH 64,899 paid by the residents
The work was carried out by a certified contractor in line with the city’s heritage preservation standards.

🔹 City program in action
Lviv’s co-financing program continues to support the restoration of doors and windows in buildings within the city’s historical area. Full details are available on the Heritage Bureau’s official website in the “Co-financing” section.

In 2024 alone, the program helped restore:

  • 10 entrance gates

  • 9 historic windows

  • 9 plastic window-and-balcony units replaced with wooden counterparts
