At the session of the Lviv City Council, the list of sworn district courts of Lviv was approved. In total, there are 42 people who volunteered to be jurors.
Therefore, new jurors will appear in the district courts of the city:
- Galicia District Court of Lviv – 2 persons;
- Railway District Court of Lviv – 6 people;
- Lychakiv District Court of Lviv – 7 people;
- Sykhiv district court of Lviv – 13 people;
- Frankivsky District Court of Lviv – 13 people;
- Shevchenkiv District Court of Lviv – 1 person.
As the legal department of the Lviv City Council explains, the powers of jury district courts of Lviv ended in 2023.
“Now we have done the work, gathered people who have a desire to serve as jurors. This is a rather difficult public burden, because according to the law, jurors take part in cases for which life imprisonment is provided and in some cases that require guardianship and care,” said Helena Payonkevych, director of the legal department of the Lviv City Council.
At first, there were not enough people willing to be jurors to cover the needs of the Lviv district courts. However, the necessary number of people was eventually gathered, officials say.
“Here it also depends on the place of registration of a person, he can be a juror only in the district in which he is registered,” the legal department of the Lviv City Council explains.
