Horses and ponies have been banned in Lviv, as well as any activity involving their use in the city centre.
The ban will remain in place until a specially created working group develops the basic rules for carrying out activities involving animals in Lviv. The decision was made by the executive committee of the city council after yesterday’s incident on Svobody Avenue with the fall of a horse carrying people in a carriage.
The first meeting of the working group chaired by Lviv’s First Deputy Mayor Andriy Moskalenko is currently underway.
“The working group will promptly develop proposals, which will again be submitted for approval. It includes representatives of the public, experts, animal rights activists, representatives of structural units of the city council, deputies, and an entrepreneur who owns a horse. We have to analyse the situation, understand what happened and propose solutions to prevent such incidents in the city. Perhaps this should include some changes at the national level. But I would like to draw your attention to the fact that from today and until a decision is made, the operation of horse-drawn carriages in the city centre is prohibited,” said Andriy Moskalenko.
As reported in social media, yesterday a horse carrying people in a carriage fell in the city centre.
Later, the horse’s owners reported that the animal fell because it got tangled in the harness, and it was promptly freed.
The city council responded to the incident. In particular, this morning, Andriy Moskalenko said that the city was studying the CCTV footage and had spoken to the owner of the animal. He also announced that a special working group would be convened in Lviv to investigate the case.
