The Government of Ukraine adopted changes to the procedure for processing documents for foreigners and stateless persons who assist the Defense Forces.
The changes will take effect on January 16, 2026, simultaneously with the new Law of Ukraine on citizenship. “These changes reduce bureaucracy and guarantee more legal opportunities for those who stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukrainians,” said Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.
The document provides for the right to a temporary residence permit for foreigners who have assisted the Defense Forces for at least six months. It also provides for an extension of stay in Ukraine even after the expiration of passport documents.
The requirement to submit medical certificates and certificates of no criminal record for certain categories of persons has been canceled. The process of obtaining an immigration permit for family members of foreigners who died while serving in the Armed Forces has been simplified.
