In Zavyshne, Sokal Region, a local cafe has become a refuge for refugees

“I NEVER THOUGHT MY BAR WOULD BE A SHELTER FOR REFUGEES, BUT IT’S MY SACRED DUTY”

Today we visited the cafe-bar “Two Hearts” in the village. Overpopulation, where temporary refuge has been found by migrants from those regions where active hostilities are currently taking place.

This was reported in the Sokal City Council.

It is impossible to talk without tears to people who have been forced to leave their homes and go to places where they do not shoot, where they are more or less calm, where you can go outside and breathe the air.

Entrepreneur Volodymyr Kurtyanyk said: “I never thought that my bar would become a refuge for refugees, but it is my sacred duty. In the first days of the war in the cafe-bar arranged 60 seats for people fleeing the war. Some people come, spend the night and go abroad, and there are those who have been here for a long time, because there is nowhere to return… A family of elderly people from Popasna lives here, they have nowhere to return, because fire, the Muscovites destroyed everything to the ground.

Currently, 39 people live in the premises of “Two Hearts”, 19 of them are children. The chefs of the cafe-bar prepare food for them every day, help the locals with food, as well as farmers of our community. Volodymyr Kurtyanyk noted that refugees have all the necessary conditions: the premises are heated, there are refrigerators for storing food, showers, toilets. Outside there is a playground for children, gazebos, where you can relax in the fresh air, children’s swings.

Mayor Serhiy Kasyan, Deputy Mayor Volodymyr Oginsky, and Head of the Service for Children Iryna Vashchuk told how to obtain the status of an internally displaced person, what documents must be submitted to receive social benefits.

During the war, every Ukrainian strives to win. Some are fighting on the military front, others are volunteering in the rear, helping refugees. We are invincible, because we are one!
