In Lviv, parking inspectors and tow trucks are working intensively

According to Oleh Zabarylo, director of the Department of Urban Mobility and Street Infrastructure of the City of Lviv, parking inspectors and tow trucks have been working intensively around the clock in Lviv in recent days. If earlier drivers who parked cars in violation of traffic rules were warned and applied preventive measures, in recent days inspectors have been actively fining violators and taking their cars to the penalty area. According to the official, dozens of cars are being evacuated every day. Owners usually pick up cars from the penalty areas quickly.

“In the first days, we tried not to fine, but to warn to allow people to stop the crime, that is, to move to another place. But such a measure is effective on a temporary basis, because people get used to it and, accordingly, there is no reaction. We are now actively penalizing, effective evacuation from places where it significantly impedes traffic.

Parking inspectors work around the clock. Lvivavtodor controllers are also involved. They provide support, perform a more advisory function. Tow trucks are working in parallel. If the inspector sees that the car is parked with a gross violation, complicates traffic, we call a tow truck, which evacuates the car to the penalty area. The owners quickly remove the car from the penalty area. I think it will be a good science for them not to park anywhere, “Oleh Zabarylo said.

Most violations – in the area of the railway station, in the central part of the city, at the station “Pidzamche”, which is now actively used, and in other locations where parked cars lead to traffic difficulties.

The central part of the city remains the most critical. For example, parking in the public transport lane on Svobody Avenue has already led to road accidents.

“The number of cars in Lviv has increased significantly. We are talking about tens of thousands of cars with registration in different regions of Ukraine. Our streets have not become wider, the load on the transport network is increasing. We see that there are difficulties in movement. And today complications in movement are critical, because it is necessary to ensure the passage of ambulances, special vehicles, humanitarian convoys. Therefore, it is very important that drivers, in particular in the central part of the city and near the station, do not park their cars in violation of traffic rules, “Oleg Zabarylo added.

He added that the mayor’s office is working with the police to work out a mechanism to unload the city so that it is passable, mobile, as well as to ensure high-quality and fast transportation of public transport, special vehicles and convoys with humanitarian aid.
