The State Customs Service of Ukraine has introduced a new electronic service that enables users to find out online whether a mobile phone’s IMEI has been included in the data submitted during its customs clearance in Ukraine.
To use the service, a user needs to enter the mobile device’s IMEI in a special field and click the “Search” button. The system will indicate whether the specified identifier is present in the dataset on the customs clearance of phones carried out from 4 September 2026 onwards.
IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique international identifier of mobile equipment. It can be viewed by dialling *#06# on the phone, as well as in the device settings or on the packaging. If a device supports several SIM cards and has multiple IMEIs, it is recommended to check each of them separately.
Since 4 September 2026, when mobile phones are imported into Ukraine and goods are declared under the relevant codes in accordance with the Ukrainian Classification of Goods for Foreign Economic Activity, customs authorities have been provided with information on the IMEI of each device. This allows the State Customs Service not only to collect structured data on imported phones, but also to provide open online access for their verification.
The new service will be useful for various categories of users:
- buyers – to check a phone before purchase;
- sellers and importers – to confirm the presence of the IMEI in the customs clearance data;
- public authorities – as an additional source of information when identifying risks of illegal import and circulation of mobile equipment.
At the same time, the service only shows whether the IMEI is present or absent in the customs clearance records. It is not used to establish the authenticity of the device, verify warranty obligations, arrange blocking by an operator or determine whether the phone has been added to the list of stolen devices.
The State Customs Service notes that the development of such digital tools should increase the transparency of foreign trade, help bring the domestic mobile phone market out of the shadows and assist citizens in making more informed decisions when purchasing equipment.
