Drohobych will become one of the Ukrainian locations of the global hackathon NASA Space Apps Challenge 2026. This was announced by Donetsk National Technical University, which will act as the local partner of the event.
Together with Kyiv and Dnipro, Drohobych and DonNTU have become the third official platform in Ukraine to host this international space hackathon. Pupils of lyceums and gymnasiums, students and other interested participants will be able to take part without leaving the city.
NASA Space Apps Challenge is an international hackathon that brings together people with different skills to find solutions related to Earth and space. Participants will work with NASA open data, analyse issues, generate ideas and develop their own projects.
The organisers stress that not only programmers or space industry specialists can take part. Curiosity, the ability to work in a team, creativity and a willingness to propose unconventional solutions are what really matter. Designers, analysts, researchers, those interested in technology, and people who know how to present their ideas and persuade an audience are all invited.
Participation is open to school pupils from the age of 14, students and anyone else interested. Teams may consist of up to six people with different competences. For participants under the age of 18, written parental consent is mandatory.
The hackathon in Drohobych will take place on 14–15 November in a hybrid format: online or offline on the DonNTU campus in the city. Participation in the event is free of charge.
Teams can register on the official NASA Space Apps Challenge website for Drohobych, which the organisers recommend accessing via the project’s public announcements.
