The Lviv Philharmonic begins a new season of concerts with the participation of musicians from Mariupol

The new concert season of the Academic Chamber Orchestra “Virtuosi of Lviv” of the Lviv National Philharmonic will open under the sign of gratitude to the defenders of Ukraine and solidarity with the musicians of Mariupol.

The event will take place on September 24 at 18:00 in the Lyudkevich Concert Hall of the Lviv National Philharmonic. The opening of the season will be attended by the chamber orchestra “Renaissance” of the Mariupol Chamber Philharmonic, with which the Lviv team combines many years of cooperation and successful projects.

This year’s opening of the Lviv Virtuosi orchestra’s concert season takes place in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Orchestra artists do not stand aside, join volunteer activities and take an active part in concerts in support of Ukraine and its Armed Forces, including abroad.

“The concept and idea of the opening concert of the orchestra’s season is a deeply symbolic and unique act of solidarity and support for Mariupol, whose residents suffered from Russian aggression, in particular the Mariupol Classic festival and the long-time friends of the Lviv Virtuosos, artists of the Mariupol Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra “Renaissance”, – said the founder, director and chief conductor of the Academic Chamber Orchestra “Virtuosos of Lviv”, People’s Artist of Ukraine, Serhiy Burko.

The collaboration between the teams has been going on for two decades. During this time, many projects were created and implemented. For example, “Three Mozarts”, which recently (August 26) was successfully presented for the second time at the famous Polish festival “Music in Old Krakow”. The orchestras also created a joint CD “Ukrainian Music from East to West”, which included works by Mariupol, Donetsk and Lviv composers.

The opening program of the season will combine the works of Ukrainian composers of different generations: Mykola Lysenko, Viktor Kosenko, Yuriy Lanyuk, Valentin Stashenko, Bohdana Frolyak, Zoltan Almashi. In particular, “Fantasy on the themes of Okean Elsa” by the laureate of the National Prize named after T. Shevchenko, the well-known Ukrainian composer Bohdana Frolyak, whom she dedicated to “Virtuosos of Lviv” and “Renaissance”. The composition “Maria’s City” by Zoltan Almasi, which is a requiem-dedication to the city of Maria and its inhabitants and defenders, will be symbolic.

The official opening of the project took place on September 21 in Gdansk, Poland. Details about the event in Gdansk: https://www.filharmonia.gda.pl/repertuar/543-specjalny-koncert-solidarnosci
